Ahead of General elections, Jharkhand is witnessing a war of words between the ruling JMM and opposition BJP.In the latest event,BJP leader Amar Kumar Bauri has alleged that Champai Soren was a "caretaker and puppet chief minister".

Addressing a press conference in Jamshedpur on Sunday. Bauri, who is a senior leader of the BJP, added that Champai Soren has been hand picked by the Soren family headed by JMM Suprimo Shibu Soren and ex CM Hemant Soren who is currently in jail facing the charges of money laundering associated with a land scam.

Bauri told media persons that Champai Soren is not allowed by the Soren family to work Independently. He further said that Kalpana Soren, the wife of ex CM Hemant Soren was directing Champai Soren on every move he takes.” Kalpana Soren is the centre of power” in Jharkhand, said Bauri.

Prior to Bauri, BJP MP from Godda, Nishikant Dubey had predict that after LS polls, Soren family will “oust” Champai Soren and make Kalpana Soren as CM. But this will create intra- family dispute within the Soren family, Dubey had told media persons.

The younger brother Basant Soren is a “bold” person. “ I know him. He will not accept Kalpana Soren who is his sister-in-law as CM. The party is on the brink of  split”, Dubey thinks.

At the moment, Basant Soren holds ministerial post in the Champai Soren cabinet.Insiders say, CM Champai who is known as a loyal man of the Soren family, has not been attending office regularly.

In any case, the Election Commission of India (EC) on March 16, 2024, had announced the upcoming Lok Sabha election dates. 

As per EC's announcement, the General elections in Jharkhand will be held in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh phases. The state will go for polls on May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1 .

While talking to media persons in Jamshedpur, 
BJP leader Amar Kumar Bauri also sought to know in what capacity was Kalpana Soren chairing meetings despite not being in the government or head of the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

"I would like to ask Champai Soren why is he so helpless despite being the CM? Why is JMM not giving him any importance even during the Lok Sabha polls. Kalpana Soren does not hold any post in the government or the JMM. Then, in what capacity is she chairing all meetings?" Bauri questioned.

Kalpana Soren is yet to reply.
