Responding to Jharkhand Police’s special branch demand from its Dy.SPs of all districts to provide a “caste-based” percentage of the voters in the light of Lok Sabha polls -2024, Jharkhand BJP submitted a letter to the State Election Commission.

The BJP’s letter states that there is “ no such law” made by the state government or any orders from the central government seeking an investigation to “ expose the intent behind the letter”.

The state Election Commission is yet to respond to BJP’s letter.

As per the Indian Express report, on April 15, a letter was sent on April 3 asking for the data when the Model Code of Conduct is in force. The state CEO had said that seeking caste-wise details is a violation of model code of conduct and “ strict action” will be taken, reports The Indian Express.

In the letter, BJP stated that in Jharkhand no such law has been made by the state government for district-wise caste - census before the LS polls 2024. There has been no order from the central government. If the letter is true, then somebody is trying to make political gains out of it.

It should not only be stopped, but it is also necessary to expose the intention behind issuing this letter. The BJP has demanded “ strictest action against the culprits.”
