After getting its summon, Rita Lal appeared before the Enforcement Directorate. Rita Lal is the wife of Jharkhand Congress Minister Alamgir Alam’s personal secretary (PS) Sanjiv Lal who along with domestic help Jehangir Alam was arrested following raids conducted at various premises on Monday which led to the seizure of around Rs 34.50 crore in cash. 

A Special Court in Ranchi had remanded Lal and his house help to seven-day ED custody on Tuesday after the agency submitted that names of senior bureaucrats and politicians had emerged.  

The agency also alleged that “officials from top to bottom” of the Rural Development Department were involved in a money laundering nexus. 

On Wednesday, ED sleuths had taken Sanjay Lal to his office chamber at Project Bhawan in Ranchi and recovered over Rs two lakh cash. 

Right now Rita Lal is being grilled by ED sleuths in their efforts to know the source of the huge sums of cash recovered from the Lal’s premise.
