The police in Jamtara on Thursday seized Rs 16 lakh cash from a car coming from West Bengal. 

The seizure was outcome of a checking operation going on across the state during the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. 

The site of seizure falls along the Jharkhand- West Bengal border near the area lying under the jurisdiction of the Mehijam police station. 

The Income Tax department was informed about the seizure of Rs 16 lakh. Mehijam police station Sub-Inspector S. Singh said the cash hidden under sacks was unearthed near the Jharkhand - West Bengal border. 

The box contains cash was found after the driver was asked to stop and open the dickey.
