The Union government has appointed a new Cabinet Secretary to take over from the incumbent Rajiv Gauba, who is due to complete his extended term this month. 

The successor of Rajiv Gauba has been the Finance Secretary Dr.T V Somanathan.

Notably, Dr TV Somanathan, whose daughter’s wedding Prime Minister Narendra Modi had attended in Chennai in 2017. He was earlier transferred to Tamil Nadu, his parent cadre. 

As per his career records, Somanathan had served as Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister for more than one and half years. Then he was reverted to Tamil Nadu and posted as Principal Secretary to the government, Planning and Development and Special Initiatives.

Modi, who visited the State on November 6, 2017 had made a personal visit in the midst of official engagements to the wedding of Somanathan’s daughter.
