The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, hosted a Justice S. B Sinha Memorial Lecture on Golden Jubilee of Kesavananda Bharati v. state of Kerala by Hon'ble Mr. justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai. 

The event focused on the la ndmark case "Kesavananda Bharati vs. State of Kerala." The chief guest for the occasion was Hon'ble Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai of the Supreme Court. 
The program commenced with a tribute by Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay of the Jharkhand High Court, followed by a formal start with the lighting of the lamp. Vice Chancellor Dr. Ashok R. Patil welcomed all the guests and highlighted the importance of remembering Justice SB Sinha's contributions. 

High Court judges were also present on the occasion. Justice SB Sinha's wife Utpala Sinha and his two sons Abhijit and Indrajit Sinha were also present. In his keynote address, Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai detailed Justice SB Sinha’s judicial contributions. 

He emphasized that Justice Sinha played a significant role in the development of law, with his decisions holding a prominent place in law journals from 2000 to 2009. 

 

Justice Gavai praised Justice Sinha for his hardworking and dedicated nature, noting his practice of working with multiple stenographers to draft numerous important judgments and remaining active even after retirement. 

Justice Gavai discussed the "Kesavananda Bharati vs. State of Kerala" case, highlighting its crucial role in the development of the Constitution and the protection of fundamental rights. 

He underscored the importance of maintaining the Constitution’s basic structure and the impossibility of altering it. He stressed the significance of fundamental rights as the soul of the Constitution, vital for leading a dignified life and contributing to social and economic development. 

Justice Gavai also highlighted the responsibilities of future generations, including the need for clean air, water, and a better environment, and the importance of social and economic development. During the lecture, Justice Gavai shared his personal experiences with Justice SB Sinha, describing him as a role model who consistently supported junior judges and inspired continuous learning. 

The event concluded with Assistant Registrar Dr. Jesu Ketan Patnaik delivering the vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to all distinguished attendees, particularly Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, and praised the event as a significant and honorable occasion. 

This lecture was a meaningful effort to remember Justice SB Sinha's judicial contributions and personality. It shed light on the Indian Constitution, fundamental rights, and the vital role of the judiciary. 

The program provided an important opportunity for students, legal professionals, and the general public to understand the rich tradition and significance of the Indian judicial system. It was a successful attempt to honor Justice SB Sinha’s legacy and inspire the new generation with his contributions.
