Strange are the ways opposition parties act in Jharkhand at a time when the Election Commission is gearing up to announce the schedule of the forthcoming Assembly polls.

No format of the so-called 'Mahagatbhandan' was decided by opposition parties till date. The Congress and JMM were moving in their own ways.No body know where RJD and JVM stands. Yet JVM led by ex-CM Babulal Marandi is airing claims to contest 10-12 of total 81 seats.

None of these parties have entered into an alliance so far. Yet, promises and declarations were swinging in all constituencies. For instance, RJD not having any strength in this state has already published 'Sankalp Patra.' (Document of Resolution).JMM has come out with "Badlao Yatra"(Tour for Change) with its Acting president Hemant Soren moving from one area to another.

Apart from raising hands against the BJP government led by chief minister Raghubar Das, Soren has made announcements- jobs, reservation to women and OBCs.Even the Congress headed by its newly appointed state unit President Rameshwar Oraon is busy setting up Draft Committee to prepare manifesto.

Incidentally, each of these opposition parties wants Mahagatbandhan to confront BJP head-on. However, none had shown any sign of entering into any alliance. There was no effort to accept a common leader and common manifesto.

In recently held Lok Sabha elections, the UPA constituents had talked about the necessity of a joint manifesto. However, that is past.No talk about it is heard these days.

Right now, JMM which is the largest opposition party with 19 MLAs wants its Acting President and ex-CM Hemant Soren as the chief ministerial candidate of the Mahagatbhandan. This was not acceptable to Marandi.

More, since the Congress leadership has not agreed to make its decision public, other issues connected with Mahagatbhandan such as which party will contest from where, who will be the CM candidate and joint manifesto remain floating in the air. This has left the ruling BJP in cheers!
