Jharkhand capital city has slipped into a carnival ground on Wednesday with people from all walks of life and every community celebrating Christmas

Across Ranchi city, singing carols, receiving gifts from Santa and the sound of bells ringing add to the ambience. Today, many people were spotted visiting near and dear ones, taking part in the morning mass and making merry.

Decked up with beautiful stars, many homes were visible with Christmas trees full of chocolates and gifts along with wooden and thatched cribs with the statues of Jesus and Mary.

“Celebrations started from Wednesday itself. In the evening we visited the Church for Christmas carols. Midnight mass along with my wife was special. Since we don’t have many relatives here we will enjoy the day with some close friends,” said Ranjit Singh, a software engineer.

Unlike many previous years, this time Christmas, being a holiday, falls on the full moon night bringing a chance for everyone to visit friends and relatives and enjoy merry making under the moon light. However, since it is cold and the sky is full of clouds, the moon was not visible on Thursday.

Yet,Santip Murmu, a dschool teacher, said: “The clouds and the cold weather are fine though we expected to have additional fun with the full moon on the Chirstmas day. This we could not due to the clouds in the sky.”

The good thing is no untoward incident took place on the eve of Christmas as celebrations were joyous at Purulia Road near St Mary’s Cathedral on Thursday late evening. “Every body was in the grip of joy.We are very happy”, said Latika david,a local resident at Purulia road.
