After at least seven people were killed in opencast coal mine at Rajmahal area of Eastern Coalfields Ltd after a coal mine cave-in took place on December 30,2016 night, four workers died and three others got injured after the illegal mica mines caved in the Maoist infested area under Lokay Nayanpur in Giridih.

These four casualties could have been prevented provided the state government functionaries ensured that illagal mining of mica did not take place."Even the cave-in at Rajmahal area of Eastern Coalfields Ltd could have been prevented had the ECL authorities been careful about the implications of rain on the packs of sand, soil and coal",said a senior Expert.

Today,an pack of soil had collapsed causing the cave-in of the illagal mica mines in Giridih. The scene was no different earlier when a heap of mud had caved in at the entry point of the Latmatia mines of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) in Godda district.

None of the senior state disaster management officials had taken any decision or adopted any plan to avert these disasters.

"So far, bodies of four miners have been recovered from the illegal mica mine. Rescue work is on," said DP Tiwari,Magistrate in Giridih.
