India based US Consulate announced the opening of the annual competition for Fulbright-Nehru, Fulbright-Kalam, and other Fulbright fellowships.  Such exchanges have helped bring the people of India and the United States closer together through opportunities that enrich fellows’ academic, research, teaching, and professional capacity.  Alumni of exchange and scholarship programs have demonstrated strong leadership in several fields, including agriculture, the arts, business, education, the environment, humanities and social sciences, public health, and science and technology.  Outstanding Indian students, academics, teachers, policy makers, administrators, and professionals are encouraged to apply.

Kriti Sharma, a Fulbright-Nehru Master’s fellow said, “I attended an exclusive program at Stanford University which trains scholars interested in joining legal academia.  I benefitted from the diverse courses and personal guidance received from some of the leading legal luminaries through this program.  I had the opportunity to engage in conversations with Native American communities which helped me to compare their socio-legal issues with concerns encountered by the indigenous groups in India.”

Ajaykrishnan, a Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research fellow at Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, remarked, “At the Fontana Corrosion Center, which is one of the world's leading research centers for corrosion, I analysed the deleterious effect of stress and corrosive environments on age-hardenable aluminium alloys, which are critical for the aerospace industry.  During the course of my stay, I travelled extensively throughout the United States and met people with whom I could exchange ideas on diverse topics.”

Khushboo Irshad, a Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research fellow at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, commented, “The grant allowed me to widen my scientific network in the United States.  I did several presentations on the outcomes from my research project on brain tumours and received valuable inputs from eminent scientists in the field of cancer biology.  I attended the 2017 Society for Neuro Oncology Annual Meet in San Francisco, which is a prestigious conference in my field of specialization.”

On behalf of the United States Fulbright Commission, the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) expects to offer approximately 100 Fulbright-Nehru and eight Fulbright-Kalam Climate Fellowships to Indian applicants in 2020.  Fellowship details are posted on the USIEF website (www.usief.org.in) and the first application deadline is May 15, 2019.  Applicants may send any queries to ip@usief.org.in or contact one of the USIEF offices in New Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, or Mumbai.
