Almost 97 days after National Law University student was gang-raped on November 26, 2019, the district court in Ranchi passed judgement convicting on Monday 11 accused.

As per the judgment, each accused was awarded life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 50,000. The total fine has to be deposited in the account of the victim, court-ordered. 

Among the accused were Kuldip Oraon, Sunil Oraon, Sandip Tikey, Ajay Munda, Rajan Oraon, Navin Oraon, Basant Kacchap, Ravi Oraon, Rohit Oraon, Sunil Munda and Rishi Oraon.

Principal Judge Navneet Kumar sentenced all accused on charges of abduction, gang rape and criminal conspiracy. Since one of the accused is minor, the Juvenile Justice Board court is yet to pass judgment.

Incidentally, while the police was successful in arresting all accused and filing FIR and Charge sheet, the court of justice Kumar completed the hearing in just 20 days.

The case of gang rape took place on November 27, 2019. The victim filed an FIR on November 27, 2019. On January 6, 2020, charges were registered against the accused. The witnesses were heard on January 6, 2020.
