Morning walkers along Morahabadi Maidan in Ranchi confronted onset of winter a day after Diwali as a thick fog enveloped the sky.

Though the minimum temperature hovered around 27 to 16 degrees Celsius, the local meteorological office has warned that cold wind will blow across the state during Chhath puja( November 17-20.

The visibility due to fog was reduced to 350 metres Monday morning. Ramesh Kumar a former Usha Martin employee residing at Morahabadi is a regular morning walker who prefers to wake at 5 am and leave for his daily walk at 6 am.

From Diwali onwards, the time has been extended to 7:30 am or 8 am because it is still dark at 5 am and the chill does not allow him to get out of the blanket. Inside Sidhu Kannu park, morning walkers enjoyed the presence of fog in the sky.

“It gives indication of the coming of cold weather. I think it is the time to start wearing jackets and monkey caps”, said Subhi Singh, a morning walker.
