For the first time, a theft of land records has taken place inside the Ranchi District Collectorate.

The theft took place on Wednesday- Thursday night. The police and district officials including Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Sinha have visited and inspected the site inside the land record rooms.

The police have filed FIR registering the case of theft of official files of land records of several plots of land. An investigation has begun, said the police.

Though media persons were informed that official records of land plots located in Ranchi city were missing, the buzz in a section of the Collectorate is that land records of the land that is alleged to have been acquired by ex-CM Hemant Soren in Baragain Anchal, Ranchi, were missing from the land record room.

None of the officials including Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Sinha were available for comment.

According to the chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate, Soren had allegedly held possession of about 8.86 acre of land in size and located at Bargain Anchal, Bariyatu Road in Ranchi.  

It has been valued at Rs 31,07,02,480 as per urban residential property rate of Rs 3,50,680 per decimal, the ED charge sheet.
