Jharkhand Rural Development Minister and Congress leader Alamgir Alam appears to be in trouble.

After he was asked to appear before the Enforcement Directorate on second consecutive day Alam appeared again on Wednesday at its zonal office in Ranchi. On Tuesday he was interrogated by the ED sleuths for around nine hours.

Though he reportedly stuck to his stand that he had nothing to do with the huge sum of cash recovered from the premise of his personal secretary Sanjiv Lal and the latter’s domestic help Jahangir Alam, ED sleuths were not convinced.

Alam was being questioned in group comprising personal secretary Sanjiv Lal and his wife Reeta Lal. The federal agency had summoned him for questioning in a money laundering case.

Last week, the ED arrested Alam’s personal secretary Sanjiv Lal and the latter’s domestic help Jahangir Alam following the seizure of more than ₹32 crore cash from a flat linked to them.

Alam, 70, was asked to depose at the ED office under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Before stepping into the ED office, Mr. Alam told reporters that he was a person who followed the law.
