Jharkhand’s two BJP MPs Annapurna Devi from Koderma and Sanjay Seth from Ranchi have gained berth in Narendra Modi -03 Ministry.

Having secured victory by a huge margin in Koderma, Annapurna Devi who was Minister of State in the previous Modi government’s Education Ministry has been honoured.

This time she was promoted to the rank of Cabinet Minister. Similarly, BJP’s Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth has been given the rank of Minister of State.

Both Devi and Seth belong to the OBC community. While Annapurna Devi, a widow, belongs to the Yadav caste, Seth comes from the Vaishya community.

By giving Ministerial berth to them, the Modi government- 03 is perceived to have tried to win the OBC votes in the state.

The name of Nishikant Dubey,BJP’s four time Brahman MP from Godda, prominently figured in probable list of Ministers of the Modi government. This did not happen. Why?

Analysts say, since two upper caste BJP MPs who were inducted into the list of Modi -03 Ministry, were from Bihar, upper caste BJP MP Nishikant Dubey from Jharkhand did not figure there.

Clearly, by promoting Annapurna Devi from Minister of State to Cabinet Minister, BJP has sought to mobilise Yadav caste who constitute nearly 8-10 percent of total population in the state and increase percentage of women in the new Modi Ministry.

In 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Annapurna Devi had defeated her rival by over 3,77,014 votes in Koderma.

Alongside, the BJP has continued to retain its support among Baishya community. The induction of Sanjay Seth in the Modi- 3 Ministry is considered a move toward the same end.
