The IMA, Jharkhand women's wing doctors in league with the Department of Forest organised a campaign to detect and cure major diseases- cervical cancer, sickle cell anemia, malaria, tuberculosis, etc. - causing untold miseries to many tribals in remote areas of Saranda forest in Jharkhand.

Billed as ‘Janani and Jyoti Suraksha Abhigyan’, the campaign launched in Gua in the Saranda forest region on June 14, is slated to conclude at the Goelkera community health center on July 1.

The organisers say, their aim is multi-fold. One, targeted population comprised nearly 1000 primitive tribal families who were residing near Goelkera and adjoining areas, each falling in the Naxal-infested zone.

Two, after scanning and detecting them, patients suffering from cervical pre-cancer, sickle cell anemia, malaria, tuberculosis, etc, are planned to be treated and provided free surgical treatment at Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital in Ranchi.

Three, organisers led by Kashyap Eye Memorial Hospital chief Dr Bharti Kashyap said, they plan to create a data-bank of the above diseases prevalent among the tribal and primitive tribal population in the Saranda forest.

Most importantly, the campaign aims to create awareness among these tribal people about prevention and cure of these diseases.

In the process, the campaign organisers say, they will be training selected men and women to gain skills and knowledge of gynecologists through digital video colposcope-guided cryo treatment so that they can pursue and continue the medical work after the campaign ends in their respective areas.
