Less than a fortnight time he gets to deliver justice.
Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi took oath as the 15th Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court today( July 5) only to retire on July 19.

Two more facts about Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi’s oath taking function are significant.

One, though he will remain Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court for almost 14 days minus holidays, protocol was followed in letter and spirit by Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan who administered the oath of office to Justice Sarangi at the Raj Bhavan in Ranchi on Friday.

Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel read out the warrant of appointment issued by President Droupadi Murmu.

Two, the post of the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court was lying vacant for almost one and half years, after the superannuation of Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court on December 28, 2023.

Notably, the delay was rooted in the Union Ministry of Law and Justice. It issued a notification regarding the appointment of Justice Sarangi as the Chief Justice of the High Court on July 3.

All top functionaries including Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato attended the swearing-in ceremony, besides several judges and senior government officials.

Since these VVIP functionaries had to come and attend the oath taking function inside Raj Bhawan, the roads used by them were encircled by the police forces so that their vehicles pass smoothly.

This had adverse impact on other connecting roads where traffic was disrupted due to the blockade put up by the police on prime roads at Kutchery Chowk, Albert Ekka Chowk and Shahid Chowk.

All two, three and four- wheelers together with rickshaws suffered untold miseries for over two- three hours. In fact, the routes were blocked not just for traffic even for pedestrians who were made to wait by the side of the road, all armed security forces were made to keep a watch on them.

The cavalcade of VVIPs consisted of over 40 cars, followed by a van full of armed security men, an ambulance and even an ambulance in tow. There were cops deployed every few meters some solitary and some in groups.

An ordinary citizen felt as if the honourable Justices of the High Court, CM, Speaker and others were going to war but in reality he was in the city to witness an traffic show due to the oath taking function of Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi as CJI.
