Jharkhand government-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has recorded the birth of five children delivered by a woman.
This woman is from Chatra. She “ has given birth to five children at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at RIMS“, Tweets RIMS. The date of their birth was May 23, 2013.
Inquiry revealed that all five babies and their mother are in healthy condition. They have been kept in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for observation, reports www.wionews.com.
wionews.com report quotes RIMS Dr Shashi Bala Singh saying,"The babies are under the supervision of doctors in the NICU. A successful delivery was conducted under the leadership of Dr Shashi Bala Singh.”
The same report adds that “while all five newborn babies are reported to be underweight, they remain stable. All five babies and their mother are currently being monitored by a team of doctors.”
Medically, when five children are born at once, they are called quintuplets, a rare occurrence in “1 in 55 million births”, informs wionews.com
