Two bodies-UNICEF Jharkhand in collaboration with National Social Service(NSS), today organized a virtual experience sharing session with NSS volunteers and officers from the state of Jharkhand.

UNICEF has in the last few months organized several orientations with NSS, a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, on following safety protocols to prevent COVID-19 and to promote safe behavior and wearing of masks among people of different communities.

As it is, NSS coordinators play a key role in providing information on the spread and preventive measures to their volunteers and officers who create awareness. They are also the COVID-19 warriors who were undeterred by the pandemic and are carrying forward their responsibility of doing social work and service to humanity.

During the session, the volunteers shared their activities and the challenges they face in promoting safe behaviour and conduct.

Astha Alang, Communication and Partnership Officer of UNICEF, Dr. Brajesh Kumar, State NSS Officer, Jharkhand led the discussion with 104 volunteers and officers.

UNICEF Jharkhand's Danish Khan spoke about the importance of wearing a mask. This campaign was initiated by Deputy Commissioner, Ranchi along with 14 other NGOs to promote how to wear a mask appropriately, especially with the restrictions being lifted on the movement of people in public.

Most volunteers were instrumental in creating awareness about social distancing and the proper usage of masks in times of COVID 19. They have also made masks themselves and distributed it along with sanitisers. They also spread awareness through paintings and Nukkad Nataks.

Blood donation camps for COVID-19 patients and other patients in need of blood were organised by NSS.

They also conducted social media campaigns to spread the right messages and for people to follow safety protocol guidelines.

UNICEF has been instrumental in sharing correct messages regarding COVID 19 with the NSS volunteers and officers for spreading awareness.
